First came horses, then came art. That's how I remember it anyway. Horses are a huge part of my art because they have been a huge part of my life. From the pages of coloring books as a child to owning them as an adult, they have been my obsession, my muses, my inspiration. But really, how can you see one and not be inspired?
For several years I have tried to perfect my observation, accuracy and skill through countless equine drawings. I feel I have been able to go a step further and capture the essence, or "horsenality," of each individual animal.
I began to branch out, to so speak, and draw people with horses.
Eventually, I embraced my long forgotten lessons from life-drawing class and started to draw just people.
A few months ago I stumbled upon the Fallen Heroes project and knew I needed to go in that direction. I decided to create a project of my own. Coming from a line of United States Marines, and as a wife of a Marine, I have witnessed the honor, joy, loss and even heartbreak that comes with serving your country. My newest artistic endeavour is to honor the men and women who have given their lives for our United States of America. I intend to create a portrait, free of charge, for the families of our heroes. My first such portrait was Lance Corporal Glenn Rhodes, USMC, from my hometown in South Carolina, whose portrait is displayed under the "People" tab at the bottom of this screen. Please join me in this project by nominating a Marine, Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Guardsman who made the ultimate sacrifice
